Users worldwide get control over third-party data with the Off-Facebook Activity tool

In August 2018, Facebook launched the Off-Facebook Activity for users in Ireland, South Korea, and Spain. Now, this feature is available worldwide. It allows users to manage and delete third-party data that is shared with Facebook by websites and apps for advertising purposes. While the tool is yet another step to ensure user privacy and hence reacts to recent scandals, it may undermine some targeting strategies for advertisers.

Shut down of the Facebook Audience Network’s mobile web arm due to an increasing demand to other mobile app ad formats

Facebook decided to shut down the mobile web and in-stream video placements of its Audience Network starting April 11th. After that, Facebook will no longer handle any advertiser’s inquiries for these placements. Facebook recommends starting to remove Audience Network web and in-stream placements from campaign setups as of right now.

Video Story Ads that are longer than 15 seconds are automatically split 

Previously, Video Ads within Instagram Stories were stopped after a 15-second mark and the user had the option to continue watching by clicking a button. Now, the ad is split into three tiles. If the video lasts longer than the three tiles, there will also be the “Continue Watching” button at the end of the third tile. It is important to keep in mind that a user can now skip the tiles and reach the 50% mark without even seeing the 25% mark.

Acquisition of stories photo and video editor Chroma Labs

Chroma Labs is the company behind the Chroma Stories app that offers templates and filters for the creation of content on social media platforms. The Chroma Labs team will join Twitter’s design, product, and engineering teams and will be working on more creative ways to help people connect and share with other users on Twitter. With the acquisition of Chroma Labs, Twitter might be developing a Story function soon - we will hold you up to date.

New Try On AR feature powered by Pinterest smart camera Lens allows Pinners to virtually test different products

The Try On feature is a new AR feature that allows users to virtually test different products, for example, colors of lipsticks, and thus choose the product that best matches their skin tone. Users can opt to save the Pin for later or shop the look immediately from respective retailers. Currently, this feature is only available in the U.S. for iOS and Android. We will keep you informed if and when this feature is rolled out in Germany.

New Bitmoji TV on Snapchat Discover starring the Snapper’s Bitmoji Characters in an animated series

Snapchat launched its new Bitmoji TV which shows Bitmoji avatars of users and their friends and puts them in a full-motion cartoon series. At the moment, it will not feature any ads. Before opening up Bitmoji TV to advertisers, Snapchat wants to get feedback on this feature. We will inform you if this feature becomes relevant for advertisers.
